Starbucks “The Art of Espresso”

My favorite projects are ingredient-driven. Focused. Intimate. Rooted in the craft itself.

This national campaign for Starbucks, The Art of Espresso, was just that—two :15 spots featuring the Cold Foam Cold Brew and Blonde Flat White. The artistry wasn't only in the drinks—it was in the story of how they're made. This work celebrates the ritual, the human hand, the moment before the masterpiece.

Each drink is a tiny story. A daily luxury. A work of art—made by hand, made with care.

Capturing a Love Affair with Coffee

Starbucks fans don’t just drink espresso—they savor it. They banter with baristas. They notice the artwork in the foam. They wrap both hands around their cup and settle into a daily ritual that’s more personal than routine.

That’s what this campaign had to honor: a craving not just for caffeine, but for a handcrafted experience. The story of the bean, the pour, the foam—it all matters. Because this isn’t automation. This is attainable art.

Espresso as Visual Poetry

As director, I approached each spot like a visual poem.

We built tension and curiosity through deliberate pacing. Each drink had its own sensory profile—texture, temperature, movement—and we let those qualities drive the story.

Visually, the palette was rich and restrained. Browns, creams, whites, soft grays. We let warm tones blend into cool transitions to echo the mixing and pouring of the drinks. Every frame had intention. Macro details revealed the sensuality of texture. Medium and wide shots offered context and breath.

The camera was always in motion—gliding, shifting, inviting the viewer to follow along.

Our rhythm created engagement. A dance between classic tabletop technique and an editorial point of view. Between technical precision and human emotion.

Because just like no two paintings are ever the same, no two handcrafted espresso drinks are identical. They can’t be. They shouldn’t be.

Each one is a tiny story. A daily luxury. A work of art—made by hand, made with care.
